Green Cleaning with Lemons

by yourcleaningfairy - February 14, 2019

Like vinegar, lemon is a terrific cleaning agent because of the acid it contains. This acid has antibacterial and antiseptic properties which make it act like a natural bleach. Besides that, lemon has a citrus smell which makes it refreshing and invigorating. It also has oils in its rinds, which can help it to clean and shine. Following these tips provided by Your Cleaning Fairy, you can use lemon as a substitute for many of the chemical-based cleaning products in your home.

Plain Lemon Juice.

Lemons contain citric acid, which is good at killing bacteria and eating away mineral deposits. Sometimes the lemon juice can help lime deposits. You can get rid of these by letting the lemon juice soak on the surface for a while before cleaning it off. When you have to clean hard-to-reach places such as the inside of a dishwasher, use a lemon half to clean. Afterwards, rinse the surfaces with a wet, then dry cloth.

Lemon Juice and Salt.

This is a great eco friendly cleaner for the nasty places. Such places are like inside the kitchen sink and wooden cutting boards. This is because bacteria loves growing in places like those. The lemon juice and salt should be mixed till they become as thick as toothpaste. Use this paste to scrub down surfaces especially those made of brass, copper and stainless-steel.

Lemon Juice and Baking Powder.

If you have those food-encrusted pans and dirty ovens that seem too difficult to clean, then a combination of lemon juice and baking powder will do just the trick. The paste will get rid of stubborn residue. You must let it sit on the surface for about fifteen minutes so that it can work effectively.

Lemon Juice and Vinegar.

Lemon juice and vinegar is a terrific combination for disinfecting surfaces and cleaning windows.
When combined with two tablespoons of lemon, a half cup of white vinegar and a quart of water, the result can be very useful in cleaning.
Don’t be afraid of the vinegar smell as adding lemon juice to the vinegar will neutralize the smell.

Lemon Rinds and Spices.

Doing laundry many times does not prevent cloths from absorbing a lot of smells, especially when the cloths are used in the kitchen. Lemon rind, a teaspoon of whole cloves and a teaspoon of rosemary is wonderful for disinfecting and freshening the air. Once you put the items together, bring to a boil.
This is a clean alternative to plug-in air freshers. It is even more sustainable.

Lemon Half and Salt.

You can also use the lemon itself for cleaning. Cut it into half and dip it I some salt. You can use it to clean copper-bottom pots and pans, coffee makers, microwaves and food storage containers.

There are many harmful chemicals found in most cleaning products. Lemons are a great substitute for these cleaners because they are not only cheap but also eco-friendly. You can use lemon for disinfecting surfaces and green cleaning.
